Chanel’s story

Nov 30, 2021

I didn’t have any wisdom around my finances and there was no order, I was in debt. It’s not like I would go out and shopaholic, I just, like I said, I didn’t have any wisdom.Chanel

Chanel recalls the struggle of living pretty much on the line.

“It was I suppose pretty shameful, because I wanted to be able to do the things that I really couldn’t afford to do, but because I was in debt, I couldn’t.”

Even things as simple as putting the heater on in winter became out of reach.

“But then my kids were, ‘Oh mum, it’s cold.’ I was trying, I was just trying.”

That’s when she made a resolution to pay off her debt. After praying about it, her whānau encouraged her to pick up the phone and call CAP.

Over the next 12 months she worked hard, sacrificed and with the holistic help of CAP, Chanel did it!

“Right now, in my head, I’ve got a picture of chains just falling off — that’s what I can see.”

She began to feel that she could give her children what she did not have when she was younger: a money role model.

“This can be a generational thing. I want to teach my kids wisdom around money and spending. I don’t want them to go through the same heartache that I did.”

Chanel wrote in her journal that she would be debt free in one year. Watch the video above and listen to the moment Chanel got the call to hear she was now debt free, set free!
