“Anxiety. Every

have I got enough?”

You can bring love and warmth
to a whānau like Rowena’s.

The cost of living keeps on climbing for people in hardship and in winter, it really bites. For Rowena, a single mother living with chronic illness, the cold weather made her struggles worse.

“In winter, I’m in agony… migraines, all my pain flaring up.
I was bedridden.”

She was meant to be eating special food to help with her condition, but because she was drowning in debt and relying on a benefit, her dietary requirements were way down the list.

“I started panicking… these debt agencies were hammering
me down.”

Rowena’s unmanageable debt affected more than her health and wellbeing. She also felt like she couldn’t be the parent she wanted to be.

Lonely, depressing, stressful. When I was in debt… I just felt like I was a failure.”

Rowena’s situation is sadly all too common. Before CAP’s help*:

  • 2 out of 5 clients said they couldn’t afford to heat their homes during winter
  • 8 out of 10 clients like Rowena said they felt like they couldn’t be good parents
  • 1 in 3 couldn’t provide three meals a day

Your generosity — in partnership with CAP and the local church — provides the vital support people need to become financially resilient. CAP never pays a dollar of clients’ debt – it’s clients who do the hard work of keeping to a budget and making repayments.

“I don’t have to worry about debt – not now, not ever! I feel relaxed and happy! After CAP, I feel free… I’ve never felt like this before in my entire life because I never got taught about money.”

“It’s just a weird, good feeling. I’m learning to save for the first time.”

Your gift before 31 July will bring this same free help for another family this winter.

Your emergency food parcel enables families to enjoy some hearty meals – freeing up money so that they can pay the power bill and heat their home. Meanwhile, CAP gets to work on their behalf, negotiating with money lenders and building a budget to meet families’ wider needs.
